Social Work Confidential began as more than a study tool. It started as an idea to make ASWB exam preparation more engaging, accessible, and affordable for social work students preparing for one of the most important milestones in their careers.
WHY I CREATED IT
The Story Behind the Project
While preparing for the ASWB licensing exam, I quickly realized that many study resources were expensive, subscription based, or difficult to stay engaged with over time. Like many graduate students, I was balancing school, work, and financial responsibilities while trying to prepare for licensure.
I wanted to create something that felt less like studying and more like learning through play. The result became Social Work Confidential, an interactive study game inspired by the familiarity of trivia games while remaining grounded in social work concepts and licensing preparation.
More importantly, I wanted to build something that reflected the values of the profession by making quality study resources more accessible to students and recent graduates.

Social Work Confidential represents more than a single project. It reflects my interest in combining social work, education, and technology to create practical tools that solve real problems.
My long-term vision is to continue developing innovative resources that support students, professionals, organizations, and communities while demonstrating how technology can strengthen, rather than replace, the human-centered values of social work.
LESSONS LEARNED
What This Project Taught Me
Creating Social Work Confidential meant learning website development, product design, user experience, and the discipline of iterative improvement — shipping something usable, then making it better with each round of feedback.
User feedback has been one of the most valuable inputs to this project. It has helped refine questions, improve clarity, and strengthen the overall learning experience in ways I could not have anticipated on my own.
Psychology, business, and social work each shaped decisions — from how questions are framed, to how the platform is offered, to how the experience honors the values of the profession.

SW Confidential was created by Erica Jew, an MSW candidate whose work spans social work practice, healthcare advocacy, and policy.
